Goodbye 2018, Hello 2019!
What a brilliant 2018! Wishing you a merry Xmas and a happy New Year. One of our scout troops reflects on their year…
This year we started with Winter Camp in the New Forest, where we had a great day swimming the fords on our bikes. Summer Camp led us to Brownsea Island for a gloriously hot week, where we sailed, went coasteering, slept out under the stars, played archery, pioneered etc etc! Then we had our Expedition on the North Downs – a wet one that one! But it is unlikely to be forgotten… for the giggles and incredible perseverance.
Alongside the camps we … became weather forecasters; cooked – both inside and outside; went to Cotswolds Outdoor stores to learn about equipment; star gazed; shot each other at laser quest; acted in several performances; learnt about our park; made a stove from a coke can; literally cleaned lightwater; pitched tents and built shelters; lit a lot of fires; had a number of forums where we debated topics; went cycling; kayaking; go karting; camouflaged ourselves in ghilli suits; challenged the guides to a competition and had a burger/fire with the Cubs; had nerf gun wars; carved pumpkins; made nail art (with a hammer, not nail varnish!); learnt about different faiths; attended church services; held jumble sales and a had a stall at the summer fete (to raise money for the HQ and our camp equipment); had scouts achieve their Gold Award …and played a lot of games!
…and of course who could forget our amazing group trench, or our circus themed bonfire and fireworks?!
Behind the scenes are many dedicated volunteers that deserve an extra gift from Santa this year… it’s only with all your amazing support that Lightwater Scouts remains so brilliant.
Thank you!!!
