Lightwater Bonfire 2022

Thank you to all who supported Lightwater Scouts bonfire and fireworks event 2022!

Over 2000 people attended this year’s event on the 5thNov, which had the theme of “50 years of Games Machines”.  Represented by the bonfire being built as a giant computer monitor, with the ginormous screen having a projection showcasing the evolution of computer games.   As the screen burnt, it revealed a Pacman and Ghost. Surrounding the bonfire were giant colourful cut-outs of pacman and his ghosts, that all looked a bit nervous approaching the fire. The fire was ignited by Rev. David Sigworth of All Saints Church.

It is a testament to the local community spirit that Lightwater manages to provide such an excellent bonfire and fireworks annually. Although Lightwater scouts brings it together, it takes the support of lots of people in and outside of scouting. Working hard over many months to ensure a safe and successful event. The proceeds go to help Lightwater Scouting remain affordable, building confidence and growing skills in our local youth.  We are very grateful to All Saints Church, scouted, DJ Kurt, Windlesham Parish Council for the use of the field and facilities, George Arthurs butchers, our explorer scouts for raffles and glo sticks and to all the many volunteers that helped – on the BBQ & drinks, entry gates, building the bonfire and so much more!  A very special thanks go to the Lightwater Scout Supporters Committee, leading the way – an unenviable challenging task.

We are already planning for next year and are looking into the ability to pay for tickets in advance. There’s no denying that it’s hard work, but the sense of achievement and the response from the village keeps this event running. Its easy to think that this event is a given and will continue, but it genuinely can’t happen without your support – whether that be as a volunteer or attending the event. Do let us know if you would like to join the fantastic volunteers to make next year’s event even better. We hope to see you on Nov 4th 2023!

Can you guess what the bonfire will be next year?  Take a look at our previous years themes.
